Silicon Image Enhances Its SOA and Security by Adopting Oracle(R) Fusion Middleware
Date: March 14, 2007 Yahoo! Finance

Mid-Sized Enterprise Boosts Operations, Streamlines Processes and Facilitates Compliance With Oracle SOA Suite and Oracle Identity Management

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., March 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL - News) today announced that Silicon Image, a leader in semiconductors for the secure storage, distribution and presentation of high-definition content, has implemented Oracle® Fusion Middleware as the foundation for its Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) to help improve and secure its business operations and enhance sales and customer service.

Silicon Image adopted Oracle Fusion Middleware to develop an SOA that synchronizes product and pricing data between disparate applications. The SOA delivers sales and customer service teams real-time, secure access to current information for accurately processing quotes and orders. Silicon Image selected Oracle Fusion Middleware -- including Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Application Server and Oracle Identity Management -- as well as Oracle Database 10g and the Oracle E-Business Suite because it expects to enhance its operational efficiency with greater data accuracy and automated business processes.

Through its use of Oracle BPEL Process Manager, a component of Oracle SOA Suite, Silicon Image expects to streamline and automate the synchronization of data between the Oracle E-Business Suite and its Pivotal CRM solution. This is expected to lead to a reduction in man-hours of up to 40 hours per month, thus helping lower IT costs and mitigate risks associated with manual data entry errors. The enhanced SOA-based integration also creates a valuable audit trail to help address Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements.

Identity Management Helps Streamline Compliance
Silicon Image is also relying on components of Oracle Identity Management -- Oracle Identity Manager and Oracle Access Manager -- for secure and reliable password policy management and user provisioning. With Oracle Identity Manager, Silicon Image provisions users in a more timely, orderly and automated manner. For example, the company's IT group no longer has to manage and document individual tickets associated with provisioning or deprovisioning users. The fully automated provisioning process enables Silicon Image to experience significant savings in time and resources.

In addition, the company utilized Oracle Access Manager to implement a single password policy for all key applications and to provide end users with the ability to combine both Unix and Oracle passwords into one synchronized password. The integrated password management system helps ease management for both end users and IT staff while helping increase security. As a result of its implementation of Oracle Identity Manager and Oracle Access Manager, Silicon Image can now trust one single source of truth for auditing all its users' rights and privileges to its systems -- an invaluable resource for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

"By investing in SOA software, we expect to improve our decision making and operational efficiency by integrating disparate applications," said Kenny Gilbert, director, Technology Services, Silicon Image. "Oracle SOA Suite, with its comprehensive set of components, will play an important role in our continued growth."

To facilitate the implementation process, Silicon Image worked with management consulting and systems integration firm, Trianz, to deploy its SOA. Trianz, a Certified Partner in the Oracle PartnerNetwork, is dedicated to meeting client needs through the strategic deployment of technology solutions. Through its Enterprise Applications Services unit, Trianz leverages its deep expertise in packaged and custom applications platforms to provide business systems strategy, implementation, integration and applications management solutions. These solutions deliver targeted business results in the areas of revenue growth, cost optimization, compliance and controls and productivity. Using Oracle Fusion Middleware, Trianz successfully implemented Silicon Image's SOA project in less than 50 days, allowing the company to quickly realize the benefits of automated processes, as well as greater process visibility and consistency to address regulatory requirements.

"Last year (2006) was a benchmark year for SOA and BPEL adoption," said Vikram Bhandari, vice president, Trianz. "Through our work with Oracle and support of Oracle SOA Suite, we are enabling organizations such as Silicon Image to experience the real world benefits SOAs can deliver."
